About
Coach Elway

He comes from a very talented family of athletes that coached and played at the high school, college and professional levels. A very small family with a deep history of success in football, basketball and baseball; three of the four cousins played college and successfully coached at the high school level. Three of the four are “hall of fame” coaches at the high school, college and professional levels. Uncle Jack Elway is the Godfather of the Elway Coaches and is in the Hall of Fame at San Jose State University.
Coach Elway coached (was a coach) at the elementary, intermediate and high school levels as well as the collegiate level. Coaching baseball, basketball, football, and tennis. [Successfully coaching baseball, basketball and football at all levels. He was a pitching coach at the collegiate level. He successfully coached state championship teams in football, boys and girls basketball, and three Baseball California CIF appearances in his last four years of coaching.
Coach Elway (taught) was a teacher/educator in the classroom. He taught at the elementary, intermediate, high school, university and trade school levels. His credentialed areas of study were Economics and Business, Mathematics and Computers, Kinesiology (Health, Physical Education & Recreation). He also achieved a Masters of Education and was an Elementary Principal; and was certified to be a High School Principal and Superintendent.
Coach Elway created a very stable family and home environment for his family (Coach has been married to his wife Elaine for 40 years). They were the parents of two children. Both children were successful at high school and college athletics. They were both successful academically – as one is a dermotologist and the other is the owner/operator of a successful Farm & Ranch company.
Always working hard to instill strong ethics and character in his family, players, and students; not only working every day “to be the best you can be” by learning everything you could about your sport, or subject; but also working to be of the best character possible – physically & mentally, with character, sportsmanship and competitiveness. Working to form the right relationships and having the right priorities: self (spiritual and character), family, team, school and community; Coach Elway adopted one of Coach John Wooden’s teachings of always striving “To be the BEST you can BE.” No matter what endeavor he was pursuing, Coach Elway followed this foundation teaching of Wooden’s “Pyramid of Success”. Coach went to every coaches clinic, went to every tournament, and game he could get to, read every book he could get his hands on, and was determined that he would not get “out worked” to gain the knowledge and apply that knowledge to his players and teams. As you can see from his body of work, he was very successful achieving his goal of “being the best that HE could be”.
His hobbies are reading biographies and coaching books, and personal coaching. He also enjoys fly fishing and traveling to Glacier Park in Montana. He lives in Southern California.
